ABSTRACT: This study explores innovations in promoting employability skills in vocational training, emphasizing the integration of essential soft skills with technical competencies to enhance job readiness. The objectives were to (1) identify key employability skills required by employers, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of current vocational training programs in imparting these skills, and (3) propose innovative strategies to enhance employability skill development. A survey design was chosen to collect data from students, educators, and employers to understand the effectiveness of current training practices and identify areas for improvement. The sample size comprised 220 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure a balanced representation of stakeholders. The case study was conducted in Rivers State, Nigeria, a region with a high demand for vocational skills due to its industrial activities. Findings indicated that while vocational programs adequately covered technical skills, there was a significant gap in employability skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Innovative strategies such as integrating employability skills into the curriculum through project-based learning, providing real-world work experiences, and offering targeted workshops were found to be effective. Recommendations included formalizing the integration of employability skills into vocational training, fostering partnerships with industries to provide practical experiences, and continuously updating training programs based on employer feedback.
